The 5th Commandment

- Honor your father and mother as YAHveh your God has commanded you -

line 2 copy.png

“Honor your father and mother as YAHveh your God has commanded you, that your days may be prolonged and that it may go well with you…” (Deuteronomy 5:16). ‘You shall be holy, for I Yahveh your God am holy. “Every one of you shall reverence his mother and his father, … I am Yahveh your God” (Leviticus 19:2-3). The fifth Commandment is really important because if you cannot honor your father and mother you cannot honor YAHveh (the LORD). This is the first Commandment with a promise that you will have a long life and all will go well with you (see Exodus 20:12 and Ephesians 6:2). If you are honoring your mother and father, you are doing it out of reverence to the Almighty who gave them to you, and this will teach you to love YAHveh with all your heart and soul. Even the hypocritical Pharisees did not honor their mother and father saying, “…what might have been used to help their mother or father is ‘devoted to God,’ they are not to ‘honor their father and mother’ with it.  Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition” (Matthew 15:5-6).

“My son, observe the commandment of your father And do not forsake the teaching of your mother” (Proverbs 6:20). Listen to your father who begot you, And do not despise your mother when she is old” (Proverbs 23:22). “Children, obey your parents in YAHveh (the LORD), for this is right” (Ephesians 6:1). In the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy and unloving. "Behold, I [the Lord YAHveh] am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of YAHveh. He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse" (Malachi 4:5-6).

The First Commandment with a Promise

Yahveh God emphasized and reemphasized how important all of His commandments are. (Exodus 20:12) He highlighted the fifth commandment, honor your Father and Mother, singling it out as the first commandment with a promise. It is to be done because you love Yahveh your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength. (Matthew 22:37) This brings glory to your Father and Savior because you love Him and obey Him, and it brings the Father and the Savior’s love, working through you, to your parents, whether they are saved or unsaved. Your obedience to your Father and Mother is your obedience to your God, whether you feel your parents deserve to be honored is not the issue. This is so important that Yahveh promised you a blessing and a long life in doing so. (Ephesians 6:2) It is an expression of love for God and love for them because you are a surrendered vessel and instrument of His love through obedience. It is Yahshua’s (Jesus’s) love coming through you, that loves Him first and loves others, fulfilling the two greatest commandments. (Matthew 22:36-40)

Satan knows that the promised blessing of obeying your parents is a real gift from the Heavenly Father. (Ephesians 6:2) The devil does everything that he can to turn the children against the parents so that he can rob them of their blessings, causing them to be rebels who despise the word of Yahveh. Anything we know to do and don’t do it, in the Almighty’s sight is intentional sin, and if you do it continually, Yahveh’s calls it “blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.” (Hebrews 10:26, Numbers 25:30, Matthew 12:31) Rebelling against your Father and Mother, is where rebellion usually begins, and it guarantees that the Enemy will have a stronghold in your life. Instead of a long life with blessings you will have a lack of blessings, which are curses, and your life is due to be shortened according to the Almighty. Don’t give Satan a foothold “to rob, kill, and destroy” you of the promised blessings of obedience in honoring your parents. (John 10:10) As you honor your Father and Mother you are honoring your eternal Heavenly Father and you will learn to walk in complete obedience to all His commandments.

The Leadership of Righteous Parents

If you are a parent, you should teach YAHveh’s (the LORD’s) Commandments diligently to your children; and children, you should obey your mother and father, for it is a safeguard. It is a hierarchy of eternal success and all its promised blessings if we do it in obedience to the Almighty’s ways and obedience to His Commandments. As parents, we do well if our example and leadership point our children to do what is right in Holy One’s sight so they will be in that “ark of safety” with us. There was no other place of refuge but the ark that Noah built through YAHveh’s commandments and directions.  He makes one way of escape, and then the door is closed. Humble yourself in the sight of God and, in due time, halleluYAH, He will lift you up! He will lift you up as He did Noah and the ark. For forty days, the flood kept coming on the earth and, as the waters increased, they lifted the ark high above the earth. As the judgments come, those who are in the safety of the ark of faith in YAHshua (Jesus) will be lifted higher and higher into His presence. What will kill and destroy the wicked that have evil inclinations will lift us higher and higher into the very protection of YAHshua (Jesus)!

Yahshua said that anyone who holds hate in his heart or harbors anger is a murderer and has no eternal life abiding in him. Indeed, our Savior says that “everyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him” (1 John 3:15). We must learn to love as Yahshua himself loved - otherwise, sin is lurking around the corner.

Want to learn even more about Yahveh's holy Ten Commandment? Check out Terrye G. Seedman's book "Redefining the Feasts of Israel Through the Ten Commandments." The Holy Days pivot around the Ten Commandments, these were appointed times to meet with Him that would help them to walk by His spirit’s leading in these Commandments.  Indeed, there would be no feasts if it was not for the Ten Commandments and the penalty of sin for not upholding them and there would be no need of Messiah.  The Ten Commandments point us to Him and YAHshua the schoolmaster points us to the truth so we can walk in a way worthy of everything that He has taught us to be.  “Not of the letter but of the Spirit.  For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” (2 Corinthians 3:6) This book unlocks truths from Yahveh's divine Ten Commandments to redefine the true meaning and fulfillment of the holy Feasts of Israel. Simply, the divinely appointed times, the feast days, pivot around the blood on the altar of sacrifice—on the mercy seat, for the forgiveness of sin and sin points us back to the Commandments. Therefore every feast is exalting the Commandments of YAHveh, exalting our Lamb who came and died because we can’t uphold the Commandments without His help.  They are inextricably linked. You can’t separate the feasts from the Commandments and you cannot separate the Lamb of God who is the ultimate fulfillment of the holy temple, priesthood, and the sacrificial system’s substitutionary sacrifice for our sin nature. Learn all of this and more in this powerful book about Yahveh's divine commandments and holy feasts.

The Ten Commandments

the Ten Commandments
- Overview -

Until the Commandments were given there was no knowledge of YAHveh’s holy rules or plumb line of righteousness.

the Ten Commandments
- Why are They Important -

We must be holy as He is holy yet without the Ten Commandments there would be no distinction between sin and holiness.

The 1st Commandment
- Have No Other Gods -

YAHveh says that He alone is to be our exceedingly great reward and that we must not love or put anything before Him.

The 2nd Commandment
- Have No Idols -

The Bible says no idolatrous person will enter heaven. Anything that takes priority over our Creator and Savior is an idol.

The 3rd Commandment
- Honor Yahveh's Name -

The Creator has an incomparable, sacred name that is to be honored.  Indeed, the holy name of YAHveh is a fortified tower.

The 4th Commandment
- Honor the Sabbath -

Like YAHveh’s holy name, the Sabbath is to be remembered and observed as a memorial of the Creator’s work and rest.

The 5th Commandment
- Honor Your Parents -

If you cannot honor your parents you cannot honor YAHveh. This is the first Commandment with a promise.

The 6th Commandment
- Do Not Murder -

Yahshua said that anyone who holds hate in his heart or harbors anger is a murderer and has no eternal life abiding in him.

The 7th Commandment
- Do Not Commit Adultery -

Adultery is more than a physical sin - it is forsaking YAHshua by lusting for this world because He alone is not enough.

The 8th Commandment
- Do Not Steal -

We are to be humble, giving YAHveh all the praise, honor, and glory - otherwise we steal the glory that belongs to Him.

The 9th Commandment
- Do Not Bear False Witness -

Our Savior said if you do not speak truth, which is the only language of YAHveh,  you are speaking Satan’s native dialect.

The 10th Commandment
- Do Not Covet -

Yahveh says no covetous person has an inheritance in His kingdom. If you covet worldly pleasures you are His enemy.
