“A Different Spirit”

Numbers 14:24

Yahveh (the LORD) honored His servant Caleb saying, “But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land which he entered, and his descendants shall take possession of it” (Numbers 14:24). We are to have a different spirit like that of Caleb. We are to come out of this world and be a separate and peculiar people. Yahshua (Jesus) did not say we are to come out and be like the masses of “professing believers” who just blend into their congregations. We are to be a separate, holy, and peculiar people, having a different spirit. We are not to be deterred by the giants in the land, or by the bad reports said about the remnant who come out of apostate religious forms to find the truth in Yahshua (Jesus) the Messiah.

This is what we want, a different spirit that has absolutely no tinge of resemblance to the world. If we look like the world, talk like the world, think like the world, and act like the world, then we are part of the world and its apostate religious system. Apostate means it has error, it has veered from the plumb line of the Almighty’s immutable biblical truth as spelled out in the Holy Scriptures. There is no room for error in righteousness; however, there is mercy through the blood of Yahshua (Jesus) to cover the sins of those who repent. He does not keep a record of our sins.

It is our pride and arrogance that keeps putting Him to the test. We are not to keep repenting and going back to the same sin, like He told the woman caught in adultery, “Go. From now on sin no more” (John 8:11), otherwise you are putting Yahveh to the test. “‘How long shall I bear with this evil congregation who are grumbling against Me? I have heard the complaints … which they are making against Me’” (Numbers 14:27).

“‘As I live,’ says Yahveh, ‘just as you have spoken in My hearing, so I will surely do to you’” (Numbers 14:28). Remember that the Israelites said they wanted to return to Egypt because they thought their children would be slaughtered by the giants—they would put them to the sword. The Almighty in essence replied, “You didn’t trust Me, you spoke a bad report about Me spreading an epidemic of lies about My character, defaming My glory; so the very things you dreaded, are going to happen by My hand.” Their fears will occur not by the hand of the enemy but by His hand, as surely as He lives. Don’t continue putting Yahveh (the Lord) to the test.
